Lynda Burkhalter

Lynda Burkhalter is an experienced trial attorney who handles various general civil litigation matters including commercial litigation, personal injury and wrongful death, and property damage. A sampling of her career highlights includes the following:

 

  • Represented an oil field staffing and consulting agency in various cases including a wrongful death case from a rig rollover and a personal injury case involving a serious head injury from a crane accident.

 

  • Represented a world leader of fabricated piping systems in wrongful death, personal injury and workers compensation cases.

 

  • Represented an apartment complex in a premises liability case involving a shooting in the parking lot. 

 

  • Represented bar owner through trial in a negligence case involving a bar fight that led to the Plaintiff losing a leg. 

 

  • Represented a leading firearms and outdoor retail chain as part of a team of special counsel in a very high-profile case that presented the Plaintiffs’ case to three mock juries over allegations that the firearms retailer failed to recognize a straw purchase leading to the shooting deaths of several people.

 

  • Represented an electrical contractor by presenting the Plaintiff’s case to a mock jury in a case pending in Pennsylvania over the electrocution death of a subcontractor on a construction site.

 

  • Represented a large grocery store chain and several department store chains in premises and negligent liability cases.  

 

  • Represented armored vehicle company, a cab company and a commercial coach company in numerous personal injury and wrongful death accident cases.

Court Admissions, Professional Affiliations, Education and Community

Ms. Burkhalter obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio while simultaneously serving in the United States military. Ms. Burkhalter was awarded a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1998 where she was recognized on the Dean’s list and was nominated for the President’s Award.  There she also made the finals in several mock trial competitions, was a research assistant to the Dean of Students and was a student attorney in the Civil Justice Clinic. Ms. Burkhalter has been licensed by the State Bar of Texas since 1998 and is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Texas. Ms. Burkhalter has also represented clients with pro hac vice admission in other jurisdictions. Ms. Burkhalter has three children and loves being a mother more than anything. Now that two of her children are off at college, she hopes to find time to become fluent in Spanish.
